Education Week is a time to celebrate the achievements of public schools, their students, staff and school communities. The first Education Week, back in 1954, had the theme “Lighting the Way to a Better World”, and organisers have chosen to adopt that same theme for the anniversary celebrations.
The week began with the Highland Learning Network Education Week Awards which were held in Guyra on Monday and hosted by Black Mountain Public School.
Students, staff and community members representing Guyra Central, Ebor, Chandler, Black Mountain, Ben Lomond and Bald Blair Public Schools came together to for the awards.
On Tuesday Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall hosted a Highland Schools Leadership luncheon at Rafters in Guyra with school student leaders and principals from Guyra Central, Black Mountain, Bald Blair, Ebor, Chandler and Ben Lomond schools. Also in attendance was School Education Director Northern Tablelands, Sue Brown.
“It’s very appropriate to hold the luncheon during this week,” he said. “Such events help turn the focus of the community on our public schools and also help inspire our students to work hard and chase their dreams.”
Mr Marshall said that the students were magnificent ambassadors for their schools and asked some very good questions.
“I spoke to the students about the challenges and responsibilities of leaders and the need to stay true to yourself and setting good examples “
“I encourage all members of the community to get involved in the Education Week celebrations at your local school and discover the fantastic work being done by our local teachers and students,” Mr Marshall said.
