Men’s Bowls
With the Championships drawing to a close and no action on our greens on the weekend, I only have a little (no pun intended, maybe) bit of bowls news for you.
In Zone Singles our very own John McIllwain acquitted himself fairly well, defeating R Hook (Inverell East) 31-29 before going down to N Wise (South Tamworth) 26-31 in the semi-final. Bad luck, John.
This coming weekend will see Phil and Chris Kliendienst participate in the Zone Pairs, representing Guyra and New England District, to be held at Armidale City on Saturday. All the best, guys.
Now, on August 17 (Sunday) the Yamba travelling bowlers will be here and, yes, there is a sheet on the board asking for any interested bowlers (non-bowlers also welcome) to play against them. Play will commence at 9.30am and names to be in by Saturday, August 16.
Also, on Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31, we will be staging the inqugural Presidents 2 Bowl Open Triples. Start time will be 9.00am both days. Cost is $90 per team (lunch included Saturday). Play will be give games of 18 ends. Total prize money in excess of $2,200. Nominations will close at 7.00pm on August 23.
So, come on bowlers, get your teams organised and put names on the sheet provided.
For any further information regarding bowls events, contact the Club on 6779 1499.
Note: nomination sheets are also on the board for the 2014-15 Championships.

Hockey
Another cold weekend at the hockey field, with the Under 9s starting off the day. It was a first week back after school holidays and they were excited to get back. The team had a great game.
Third grade White had a much better game holding a team that beat them by a big score last time in a very close game. Third grade Green beat a team that has been undefeated this season. This was a great effort by our young girls. Second grade was not up to full strength due to illness and unfortunately had a loss.
A big thank you to those players who fill in each week when we have players out – we couldn’t do it without you guys.
No hockey this weekend as Armidale hosts the Over 35s carnival. Good luck to all those playing in that and also to the ladies off to Newcastle to play their carnival.
Don’t forget that training is Tuesday nights at 6-7pm at the hall.
Next meeting is July 31, 7pm at the Royal Hotel. Please get there and help out with planning of the club’s future.
Don’t forget to thank our great sponsors, try get to the pub for dinner or a drink with your team this Saturday instead of hockey - bonding is an important part of being a team.
