A program filled with carols, readings, bell ringing from St Peters and performances by the Armidale City Band and pipe band made for an eventful Wednesday night, with hundreds packing the park to get into the spirit of Christmas.
The Armidale Lions Club has been organising event for about 50 years.
President of the club Jack Rapley said the carols were Lions’ “signature event” and the club’s way of topping off the year. “It is mainly about saying thank you to the local community which supports our projects which couldn’t be possible otherwise,” Mr Rapley said.
“It is really about getting together especially at this time of year.”
While the Lions members manned the barbecue and food van, the Lions Ladies sold candles and glow sticks.
Santa arrived in style to the delight of the children, handing out lollies and spreading Christmas cheer.
