Allan William Dennis won't be released until April 2022 after he turned on a 46-year-old woman at a home in Glen Innes late last Friday night.
He was denied bail in a weekend bail hearing in Tamworth Local Court and returned to court in Armidale on Monday, and again on Tuesday where he admitted to the attack.
He pleaded guilty to charges of reckless wounding; assault occasioning actual bodily harm; and stalking and intimidation; and was given a 25 per cent discount for his early guilty plea. All the charges are domestic violence-related.

Magistrate Michael Holmes said a jail sentence was the only punishment available for the serious attack and imposed a fixed 18-month prison term for each of the offences. He said the sentences would be served at the same time meaning Dennis will be released without parole at the end of April 2022.
The 33-year-old violently assaulted the woman, kicking and punching her in the head, the abdomen and the back multiple times, police had claimed.
Police and paramedics were alerted of the attack about 11.45pm on October 30 and went to the Grafton Street location to find the pair, who are known to one another.
Paramedics treated the 46-year-old woman at the scene for multiple injuries. She was then rushed to Glen Innes hospital, but due to the serious nature of her injuries she was transferred to Armidale hospital for special treatment.
The woman was listed in a serious but stable condition earlier this week, police said.
Police arrested Dennis at the location that night. He was taken to Glen Innes police station and questioned over the attack before being charged and refused bail.
