Imagine a world where regional towns across Australia are not divided over the topic of rail trails and are instead united.
Imagine a world where recreational cyclists and hikers aren't the enemy to heritage railway enthusiasts or those that enjoy a scenic railway journey.
This is entirely possible. I don't see why the topic is so contentious and dividing.
The trail can quite feasible go alongside the existing railway track for those concerned about the future of the existing railway corridor.

A trail alongside the rail would allow plenty of people to travel to the smaller towns alongside the railway. They could even grow to appreciate the old railway and learn about the history of the corridor. Raising people's interest.
Many people don't like the idea of an out and back cycle trip, so it is entirely possible in the future that if the railway was ever up and running cyclists or hikers could make the trip one way and catch the train back.
I just don't understand how the topic has become so argumentative. It's not a matter of one or the other, but what we can do that makes the majority content whilst bringing economic gains to these small decaying towns.
