League Stars is a program run by the National Rugby League which aims to introduce juniors, mainly from ages five to 12, to the sport in a fun and safe manner.
From next Thursday, there will be four sessions run at the Uralla Sporting Complex and North West Game Development Officer Jeremy Brauer is encouraging local juniors to come along and give it a go.
"I basically offered it because they are trying to get some junior teams up and running this year," he said.
"League stars is a really good recruitment tool because kids can come and have a go without actually signing up to a club.
"It is a non-contact rugby league program so it is basically an introduction for kids who have never played rugby league before to be able to come and do it without the fear of tackle."
Brauer said it is particularly inviting for children who have never played league before.
"60 per cent of kids that sign up have never played league before and then usually a good percentage of them go and register for the club after and they generally have a good time if we do our job properly," he said.
"I am doing everything in my power to get kids in the door anyway."
After the Uralla Tigers junior rugby league club sat out the 2019 Group 19 season due to a lack of numbers, Brauer is hoping the program will get players interested in signing up to play for the 2020 season.
The League Stars program will be run over four sessions at the Uralla Sporting Complex from 4pm to 5pm on Thursday and Friday, February 27 and 28 as well as 4pm to 5pm on Thursday and Friday, March 4 and 5.
The cost is $49 per child and each participant receives a League Stars pack.
