Powerhouse Motel general manager Monty Maguire said last night's attempted armed robbery, which saw perpetrators threaten the night audit manager, was foiled when he got himself to a safe position and called police.
"Only two people entered the building where there was one staff member, who was chased through the building, however was not touched," she said.
"They've then tried to ransack for money and found nothing. They stole some alcohol and then left the building.
"We very rarely have money on premises because we don't carry cash. We're a credit card [business].
Monty said none of the guests heard a thing.
"There was a car left here, which was a stolen vehicle, and as far as I'm aware they have somebody in custody," she said.
"Forensics are still downstairs and we're still cleaning up, but until they're finished there's not much we can actually do.
"All of our night staff have security training and policies and procedures are in place in case this does happen, which were activated last night."
She said there seemed to be a lot of this sort of thing going on lately.
