Darryl Dowden was diagnosed with terminal cancer this year and the community have thrown their support behind his family.
The soccer club dedicated their Old Boys' Day on Saturday to raising funds for the Dowdens through a variety of efforts and managed to pull together $17,100.
Club president Adam Brennan said it far exceeded expectations.
"We did a wood drive for the last three weeks which we cut a 30 tonne of wood and sold," he said.
"We had a raffle on the day where the prizes were all donated by the local community. And we had an auction on the night as well.
"We thought we would only raise about $5000 but we made $5500 off the wood.
"$10,000 on the day. We ran a bar and canteen on the senior soccer for the day and we donated all the proceeds from that."
In summing up the day's proceedings the committee were very thankful for the support.
"A special thanks to the Glen Innes club for two amazing nail biting games and for their generous donation to our fundraiser it was very much appreciated," they said.
"Once again thank you to everyone who attended the day and donated. Guyra is a small community with a big heart."
