After losses to Robb and then Tamworth, Albies faced a Barbarians team also searching for their first victory, for round three.
Albies co-coach Scott Waterson said the line-up of the side was altered in the lead-up to the 36-14 win which made an impact.
"We have had a few minor personnel changes and those tweaks gave us a good balance to the side," he said.
"Additionally, the extra week together allowed the patterns and combinations we'd been working on to gel, with obviously good outcomes.
"After Tamworth we felt that there were some positives and it is very pleasing to see that the side has been able to expand on that potential."
Waterson highlighted a few standouts.
"Outstanding support play, great performances from halfback Teddy Stuart, debutant James Bailey, and captain Will Burke," he said.
"That said, there are still some areas to work on which we'll be addressing this week."
They don't get much time to recover with a match up against rivals Robb College on Thursday night.
"Robb have been outstanding and will be keen to wrestle top spot on the table back from Tamworth, so Albies will need to be on song on Thursday night to counter that," Waterson said.
The other first grade match saw Tamworth notch up their third-straight win over Armidale Blues 27-20.
