The home side won the toss and elected to bat first.
After losing an early wicket Andy Duval (31), Grant Ryan (45), Barry Hoy (30) and Nick Endicott (42) set about setting up a decent total, punishing the loose balls and running well between the wickets.
Endacott was the last wicket to fall, Steve Newman picking him up caught and bowled off the last ball of the New England innings to dismiss them for a very respectable 222.
Coming on at first change Newman finished with 3-27 off of his six.
He was well supported by Phil Constable (2-20 off 5), Craig Salter (2-26 off 5) and Ken Barnes (2-30 off 7).
Andrew Stevenson (1-6 off 2) and Derek Attwell (1-21 off 3) both also chimed in with a wicket.
After losing an early wicket in the run chase and facing some excellent controlled bowling, Tamworth steadied and started to knock off the runs with some solid partnerships in the middle order.
Stevenson (22) and Richard Rowlings steered them to 65 for the second wicket.
Partnerships of 85 and 60 followed, with Rowlings, Constable and Salter all retiring. Bronte Reed (26) and Ken Barnes (33) continued the run chase with some solid batting to get them within sight of victory.
Rodger Doughty finished off the job, hitting the winning runs off the third last ball of the match as Tamworth snuck home for a five wicket win.
