For Kurt Lew, this Sunday will be a harness race meeting with a difference. The Dubbo driver is also celebrating his first Father’s Day, after he and partner Maryann O’Shea welcomed baby Cooper into the world five weeks ago today. The family will spend Father’s Day at the Dubbo Paceway, where Kurt has two drives – Jogalong Dylan and Aces for Annie – trained by his father Mick. Kurt said hanging out at the trots is something young Cooper will have to get used to. “He’s not going to have much choice there – he’s just going to be dragged along I’d say,” Kurt laughed. “And I think his mum has got me a present but I’m not allowed to know what it is until Sunday.” Kurt said becoming a father was a “bit of a change of lifestyle”, but a highly rewarding one. “It’s good just going home to see him and just seeing him grow so quick and he’s got big chubby cheeks,” he said. “He doesn’t do much yet, he just sort of lays there but he’ll be running amok pretty soon I’d say.”
