A move to rescind the decision to give mayor Simon Murray the power to oversee the hiring process of the permanent chief executive has been made.
Councillors Debra O’Brien, Andrew Murat and Margaret O’Connor have signed the motion.
Tensions flared in the February meeting after Cr Murray gave councillors just one hour to make a decision on interim chief executive Chris Rose.
Now, councillors want to change the way the permanent chief executive is chosen.
They want the whole council to select interview panel members, selection criteria and the recruitment agency that will inevitably pick council’s new chief executive.
Cr Murray has already tapped some independent panel members he would like to have a hand in choosing the new leader, The Express can confirm.
In November last year, three councillors moved to rescind a decision supporting policy that would allow them to remove wood fire heaters when homes were sold.
The extraordinary meeting is on Monday, March 26 from 8am at council chambers.
