Stabbing victim Vyleen White remembered as the answer to family's prayers

Mrs White's husband Victor White and daughter Cindy Micallef were in the crowd of family, friends and community members at Riverlife Baptist Church on February 29.

Hundreds of mourners watched as the grandmother was laid to rest in a polished white casket adorned with pink flowers.

Ms Micallef remembered her mother in a eulogy saying "there will never be enough words to adequately describe mum. She showed us unconditional love and was always there no matter the circumstance".

"Before mum ever learned to pray, she herself was an answer to prayer. Her mother had prayed for a little girl with red hair, Mum was then born on June 9, 1953," she said.

"Mum loved her family dearly and there wasn't a single one left out of her prayers.

"Mum was a real character at times, doing Donald Duck impressions, laughing at funny animal videos, carrying the kids on her back and laughing at little bird going crazy when he had a bath.

"She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and going for walks and always looked forward to family get-togethers.

"Everyone was always welcome and made to feel loved, she always made sure we were included and no one was left out.

"Without mum's love, support and prayers, I wouldn't be alive and here with you today."

A GoFundMe fundraiser collected more than $33,00 towards the $35,000 target to help support the family of the 70-year-old grandmother.

"She was such a selfless woman, with so much care for her family and absolutely any one she came into contact with," fundraiser organiser Katherine Lameree said on the GoFundMe page.

"She would hold prayers for anyone who needed them in the moment of need. She would do this even the day of her passing," she said.

"This is what they want her to be remembered by and not defined by the act of someone else."

A 16-year-old boy was charged with Mrs White's murder and the case is before the courts.

Police charged four other teenagers with unlawful use of a motor vehicle after Mrs White's Hyundai Getz was allegedly stolen following her death.

Mrs White's six-year-old grandaughter was a witness to the alleged murder and the family has asked for her privacy to be protected.

The Ipswich community has called for tougher laws against juvenile and youth offenders after the 16-year-old was revealed to be released on bail before the alleged stabbing.
