I hope you have all enjoyed a holiday break with time off if you were lucky or at least plenty of time surrounded by family and friends even if you were still on the clock.

The hot and dry summer that the Bureau of Meteorology predicted hasn't quite come to pass - the hot bit has been pretty accurate, but the dry part not so much after bouts of rain and almost daily storms for much of the silly season.
It's weird that it is already more than a week into January, 2024, but I for one and hoping for a positive start to the year.
I don't really commit to New Year's Resolutions because according to a radio show I was listening to, most people break them by the first Sunday of the new year anyway.
However, I do try and lean into the thinking of it being a fresh start, a new 365 days (or is it a leap year? I haven't checked). Still. The clock has reset and we begin a new lap around the sun.
Along with self improvement efforts, be it diet or exercise, I have another goal this year which is to try and bring you the best local coverage we as a news outlet can provide.
I want to amplify voices in the community and share the stories that people need to hear.
I have already met some lovely people in the region and I'm looking forward to meeting and having conversations with many more.
We're a pretty small team and we can't be everywhere at once, but we do want to try and do justice to the stories we share so let's open the conversation.
If you know of a story worth sharing, let me know about it at jacob.mcmaster@austcommunitymedia.com.au.
I hope you all enjoyed Christmas and New Year's and here's to a wonderful 2024.
Cheers,
Jacob McMaster, Editor
