Local contractors Wallace Construction and subcontractor Dillion's Concrete and Earthworks have taken every opportunity to push ahead with demolition and foundation works even though several unexpected delays have caused them to be a fortnight behind schedule.
"We are expecting the stage base will be completed by Christmas -weather permitting," Armidale Regional Council general manager James Roncon said.
"Unfortunately, circumstances outside of council's control has seen the sound shell roof design and fabrication process been prolonged."

Mr Roncon said the sound shell roof is now expected to be installed closer to March 2022 allowing the stage to be used for public performances.
"Thank you for bearing with us as we work through some unexpected issues that have held up the construction of the new stage," Mr Roncon said.
"We would have loved to unveil the new stage for Christmas celebrations but it wasn't to be.
"Like many of you completing your own construction projects the weather and the huge demands on the construction industry at the moment have delayed the project."
Once the new stage is completed, the community will have the opportunity to use the new stage free of charge for performances.
"Council would love to hear from anybody wishing to hold a musical event, a play, a school assembly, a dance show or any kind of performance," Mr Roncon said.
Council will also be developing a schedule of performances to be hosted in the mall, utilising the new stage venue.
