I want a Council that welcomes new residents and encourages business and investment that will create employment opportunities and prosperity for the region.
2 What do you think is the single most important issue facing the Armidale area?
The most important issue is the need to reduce excessive Council planning restrictions and procedures that discourage investment in the Region. Business should be encouraged to invest and to feel welcome. Development Application fees should cover the cost of determining an application and should not be regarded as a Council revenue stream.
3 What projects/developments do you intend to advocate for if elected as a councillor?
If elected, I will advocate for:
- Council to focus on the core business of local government.
- a reduction in council planning red tape.
- the upgrade to Malpas Dam to secure Armidale and Guyra's water supply, to protect against future droughts and a water supply crisis.
- the marketing of the Airport Business Park to a range of enterprises to help broaden the Region's economy.
4 What expertise or attributes do you have which would help you in undertaking the role of Councillor?
My career in the NSW DPI gave me an extensive understanding of legislation, policy, governance, budgeting and accountability. I appreciate the need to communicate policy requirements to development applicants to help them make good investment decisions.
I am a team player. I worked with a team who achieved positive and consistent outcomes for agriculture and the environment across NSW.
I was a member of Sandon County Apex for 20 years. I was President for three years and held all board positions.
I have judged the fresh produce at the Guyra Show for 30 years.
I am a volunteer with the Yezidi community in Armidale.
