We have some unique opportunities before us thanks to the good work completed over the past 12 months. My vision is to see our region connected with greater public transport infrastructure (especially rail), the hydrotherapy pool completed and transformed into a health precinct for our growing region, and for projects like the riverside and community malls/Main Street revitalisation brought forward to stimulate economic opportunities. I would like to see no more cuts to State services such as TAFE.
2 What do you think is the single most important issue facing the Armidale area?
Keeping services and jobs in the community and improving public transport.
3 What projects/developments do you intend to advocate for if elected as a councillor?
Our fair share of health services including the hydrotherapy pool, and community services for the marginalised. Council pushing for more local jobs - including Council procurement (already hugely improved especially for Indigenous locals). Need to join with other councils to fight against cost shifting from the State Government so we can expand our services. Also Dumaresq Dam.
4 What expertise or attributes do you have which would help you in undertaking the role of Councillor?
Beyond my experience as deputy mayor and councillor for our region, I have decades of experience working in the service industry and with community groups. I am also a small business owner. In these roles, I have experience in applying for and administering grants, project management, and working collaboratively in teams. Crucial to this is the capacity to work with and understand the roles of a multitude of agencies both private and public. I also believe strongly in the service ethos and integrity in public life, whatever the cost - and that Council ensures it is representing everyone, including those without the loud voices.
