Jeremy Kristian Hill, 24, was on ban from Australia's Woolworths-owned stores when he assaulted man over COVID-19 sign-in at Big W Tamworth

Jeremy Kristian Hill pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm; using offensive language in public and unlawfully entering enclosed land and will be sentenced next week.

The 24-year-old remains behind bars and appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday, until the feed was cut when he launched into an abusive outburst.

Magistrate Julie Soars ordered a sentencing assessment report and said she could not finalise the matter that day.

"Just sentence me today, who cares about my mental health?" Hill said before swearing.

"It's not your decision sir, it's mine," Ms Soars replied.

She asked Hill's defence solicitor to speak to him about respecting the court, as abuse would not be tolerated.

"He does seem to be quite angry and I know people don't like to be in custody," she said.

Ms Soars told the court the short wait for the report was needed because it wasn't a matter that could just be "waved away".

"It's a very serious assault on a member of the public," she said.

Police facts show Hill entered the Big W Tamworth store with a friend about 8pm on November 4 and became aggressive when asked to show his COVID-19 check-in and proof of double vaccination.

Hill entered the store anyway and refused the security guard's multiple requests, according to police, before he told the victim to "f*** off" repeatedly, so loudly that it could be heard throughout the store.

When asked to leave, Hill stood "inches" from the worker's face, and began punching him in the face when asked to leave a second time.

The victim tried to grab hold of the accused to arrest him but a struggle ensued and both men ended up on the floor of Big W, police said.

Hill got to his feet and then spat on the victim several times.

The victim suffered a bleeding nose, bruising and a bloodshot eye as a result of the attack.

Oxley officers were called to the scene and Hill was arrested and taken back to Tamworth Police Station.

It was revealed there that Hill had already been banned from every Woolworths-owned store, including Big W, across Australia.

The ban was served by police in August and is set to expire at end of the year.

The case was adjourned to Monday when Hill's sentence will be handed down.
