Armidale COVID-19: federal government data reveals New England North West vaccination rates among lowest in NSW

The New England North West region has vaccination rates that are among the lowest in the state.

The data shows 38.2 per cent of people in the region aged over 15 have had "at least" one dose of any brand of vaccine; while 15.1 per cent of locals aged over 15 have had their second and final jab.

The data was released by the Australian government on Monday and includes statistics up until Sunday night, based on geographical area.

The New England North West came in at number 24 out of the breakdown of 28 regions across the state, when comparing rates of full vaccination.

The data shows the region came in at 23 out of the 28 when considering the rate of people who have had at least one dose.

There were four areas broken down in the statistics that were worse off in terms of fully vaccinated residents, and they included the Coffs Harbour and Grafton region, the Far West and Orana, the Hunter Valley (excluding Newcastle), and south west Sydney.

Several GP practices across the region are offering both Pfizer and AstraZeneca shots to eligible residents, and the Tamworth hospital clinic is too.

People who get their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine typically have to wait a couple of months before their second and final dose.

Hunter New England Health confirmed to the Express some Pfizer doses are being sent to Sydney from across the health district, which will mean some vials of the vaccine will be diverted from Armidale hospital.

Health experts have warned vaccination rates need to continue to increase across the board.
