The Premier League leaders take a 2-1 advantage to Borussia Dortmund for the second leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday, having suffered defeat in the last-16 and in three successive last-eight ties since Guardiola took charge of the club.

"Now is the time to make another step. Everyone wants it. The players want to do it again because they were sad when we were not able to go to the semi-finals and this an opportunity to prove ourselves," said Guardiola on Tuesday.

"But nobody's going to give it to us. We have to win it, we have to do it. Just for being in this position, nobody is going to say, 'Just go to the semi-finals'. If we're good we're going to do it."

City, who are bidding for an unprecedented quadruple this season, are clear favourites to progress but Guardiola is well aware of the nerves and pressures that come into play at this stage of the competition.

For that, he has called on the leaders in his side to stand up and take responsibility.

Simply avoiding defeat would be sufficient for City at Signal Iduna Park but Guardiola insists playing for a draw is not in his planning.

Sergio Aguero will miss the second leg, still sidelined with the minor muscular problem that kept him out of Saturday's Premier League clash against Leeds but City otherwise have a fully-fit squad

Dortmund defender Mats Hummels and captain Marco Reus are doubtful, while winger Jadon Sancho is out.

"We'll have to wait and see who can make it," Dortmund coach Edin Terzic told a news conference on Tuesday, referring to the training sessions still to take place before the match.

Both Hummels and Reus were subbed with injuries in the 3-2 win over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga last Saturday.
