It wasn't until her third, 38 weeks in and ready to be induced that tragedy stuck the Tamworth family.
"Everything was perfectly fine, we were 38 weeks and one day going to be induced, I was at home in bed and my placenta ruptured while I was at home," Ms McKay said.

"There's a very, very rare chance that your placenta will come away from the uterus, it's not very common at all - but I was rushed in for an emergency caesarian and Harrison [the baby] was fighting for his life.
"He wasn't breathing when he came out, it took eight minutes to resuscitate him and because of the low oxygen to the brain he has suffered significant brain damage."
Nobody could have predicted the serious situation both mum and child would be in.
Harrison was flown to the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and a cooling process started immediately to try to stop his brain from swelling.
There's a long road to recovery ahead for the family, with no guarantee that baby Harrison will recover from his brain damage or a picture of what his quality of life might be.
The Tamworth community has rallied behind the family and raised $6100 in just four days on a GoFundMe page.
Ms McKay said she couldn't believe the support offered from people she didn't even know.
"I'm speechless to be honest, I have cried so much over it that it's not funny, I can't believe people are so generous in the unfair circumstances we are in, it's overwhelming.
"The same goes for the medical staff, the Tamworth staff saved my life because I nearly died and they saved Harrison and gave him the chance to fight."
Both Ms McKay and baby Harrison are in the newborn intensive care unit and it's unsure when the pair will be able to rejoin their family in Tamworth.
There are a lot of unknowns, Ms McKay said.
"It will be a long road and we don't know whether he will survive this or not or what quality of life he will have - it's very difficult but we are willing to do everything it takes for him," she said.
