In a statement on its website, Kmart Australia said customers in high-risk areas in NSW, ACT and Queensland were strongly encouraged to wear face coverings over their nose and mouth.
Mask-wearing would be mandatory for staff members, contractors and corporate visitors.
"The health and safety of our team members and customers remain our priority," the statement said.
Queensland stores in Capalaba and Victoria Point were on the list, as well as those in Browns Plains and Woodridge.
It comes after Queensland Health released contact tracing information which revealed a person with COVID-19 visited Browns Plains Kmart earlier this month.
Bunnings is also among the businesses urging customers to cover their faces in COVID-19 restricted areas.
These include much of the south-east of Queensland including the Redlands and Logan.
On Monday, Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young recommended that people wear masks in situations where they could not practice social distancing.
"I don't believe we have broad-spread community transmission, but certainly we're in a risky period," she said.
"Social distancing ... is far more effective than a mask (but) if you're in a crowded situation that you can't get out of, put a mask on.
