Win-less last year in the Northern Inland Premier League first grade competition, Easts are hoping they can hit the ground running in the newly-formed Sport UNE Football League.
The new competition gets its start this weekend in the form of a two-day carnival and Easts club president Jarrod Burton said numbers have been positive in the senior grades.
"Preparation has been a battle considering the strict restrictions but it's been good to be back regardless," he said.
"For seniors, we are looking like fielding first grade and third grade this year.
"We definitely didn't have our best year last year in first grade, having a completely new team last year but hopefully after a full season together last year it clicks this year."
Burton said they are hoping to improve on last year's efforts.
"Hard to make a call at this point about our season but first grade can only go up from last year and thirds should go close," he said.
While numbers in the senior grades look positive, Burton said they're still chasing more players for the junior competition which is due to commence on July 25.
"Junior teams should be the same, numbers are a little grim but fingers crossed after school holidays the numbers lift," he
"Ideally, we are aiming for a side in each junior grade but Covid may have changed that."
