A MAN has been bound and bashed during a violent armed home invasion in Armidale overnight.

Detectives are investigating the violent robbery of the 57-year-old man inside his Beardy Street home.
About 1am on Tuesday, police said three men forced their way into the home, and confronted the occupant.
The trio - who were armed with a machete, wooden mattock handle and a hammer - bashed, gagged and bound the man. They then robbed him of various items and ran from the scene, police confirmed.

The victim was able to free himself and alerted police.
Officers arrived and set-up a crime scene at the home, before detectives took charge of the investigation because of the violent nature of the incident.
The victim was treated at the scene and taken to Armidale hospital for minor injuries to his lower legs and hands.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the home invasion and have canvassed the area.
They're appealing for witnesses to the home invasion, particularly anyone in the Beardy Street area in the early hours of Tuesday, or who might have been driving with dash cam footage.
