It comes on the back of two cold fronts, one that crossed NSW yesterday and and another expected to cross the State today, bringing very windy conditions and significantly colder weather with them.

A third cold front is expected to reinforce the previous two across on the weekend .

BoM has predicted snow or rain on the Northern Tablelands on Saturday, which may produce westerly winds of 30 - 45 km/h and an overnight temperature of between -2 and 8 degrees.

Ben Lomond farmer June Walker thought a significant snowfall at this particular time would be a "double edged sword".

"I have a little farm at Tabbamurra, and snow or rain would mean moisture which we need so badly," she said.

"Snow would stay around much longer than rain which might just wash off. Snow falls on the ground and then it's got to melt, so that is the plus if it snows this weekend.

"The downside is that with the [poor] condition all the stock are in (sheep and cattle) it will be so hard on them, and I just hate to think of the outcome."

June said she had sold most of her stock.

"So, the stock I have left are not too bad, but it's the neighbouring people I am worried about," she said.

"The snow and the rain I would like to see, but take the wind away. It's the cold wind that does so much damage."

June said her property received 6.5 mls of rain on Thursday morning.

According to BoM, snow above 900 metres was on the cards again for Sunday, but the prediction is for only a 40 per cent chance, however, westerly winds should be slightly stronger at 35 to 50 km/h, and overnight temperatures may be lower between -4 and 5.

Thomas Hinterdorfer from Higgins Storm Chasing predicted between 10-20mm of snow from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning.

"This could now be one of the biggest snow events for the Northern Tablelands in the last five years with peak totals of 10-20cm forecast across the Ranges and 5-10cm being far more consistent across multiple peaks," he said in a Facebook post.
