As a Cancer Council community fundraising challenge, Relay for Life raises vital funds for cancer patients. The Armidale Relay for Life event will be held on February 23 and 24 and is organised by a team of passionate, local volunteers.
The $3000 grant will be used to support people affected by cancer by helping to keep Armidale's new Transport to Treatment service operational and on the road.
Both runners-up for the January round, Gunnedah Tennis Club and Kootingal Junior Rugby League will each receive a $1000 grant to go towards supporting operational costs.
Greater Bank’s Regional Manager, Jennifer Smith, was proud to see this month’s major grant go towards such a worthwhile initiative supporting those in the community who need it most.
“Relay for Life is such an important initiative, bringing the community together to celebrate cancer survivors and to honour those who have devastatingly been lost. It is also an opportunity for us to recognise the dedication and commitment of the unsung heroes in most cancer journeys – the Carers,” said Ms Smith.
“What a way to kick-off the first round of #GreaterNewEngland for 2019! To date the program has provided $145,000 to 87 community groups across the region and as a customer-owned bank, providing this ongoing support to the communities that support us is something we find truly rewarding.”
Voting for the February funding round is now open and closes on Wednesday, February 27. Vying for the share in $5000 will be Gunnedah Show Society, Services Hockey Club and Tamworth Swans AFC.
To submit your vote either go online to greater.com.au/greaternewengland or visit any Greater Bank branch. Collectively the effort you make to vote will mean a lot to the winning organisation in terms of the programs and services they are able to offer the community.
Greater Bank is also calling for nominations for future funding rounds. Community groups can do so by visiting greater.com.au/greaternewengland or via social media by using the hashtag #GreaterNewEngland and telling us in 100 words or less how the organisation is helping to improve lives of locals.
