Cr Pearce said he also wanted to thank the Armidale Pipe Band, who he said went down every year and “played up a storm”. He was also very pleased with the crowd of about 200 – 250 who braved the heat to turn up for this year’s ceremony.
“There’s not much you can do about the weather. That’s life in this beautiful country of ours – hot one day and hotter the next,” Cr Pearce quipped.

“Kevin Ward was our Citizen Of the Year. Apart from his work with council, he’s well known throughout the community, as both a community leader and with the sporting community.
“Kevin has a lot of irons in the fire, so as to speak and I am very proud of Kevin and his family. It’s a very deserving award.”
Uralla’s Young Citizen Of the Year was Kieren McGrath, who Cr Pearce said was probably best known for his work with the Kentucky RFS.
“I know that he’s mixed in a number of different categories within the RFS. There’s like a State mitigation team that does strategic planning for fires across the region. And apparently he was on stand-by recently for some fires overseas,” Cr Pearce said.
“He’s a very worthy recipient for the Young Citizen Of the Year, and it’s very good to have peoople like him in our community. We’re very fortunate.”
Community achievement award winners included Carol Barnden for her work with Rotary, Phil Irvine with Red Cross, Mary Ann Munsie with Can Assist and Gae Baker.
