The city beat Tamworth last year as the location to house the state’s digital base which will offer around 40 new jobs by December.

“This is an important milestone for this project,” Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said while viewing the construction plans on Wednesday.
This week work has commenced to demolish the existing building, which will make way for the new open-plan area.
The structure will act as the main centre for the digital hub.
“There will be a team of 40 new staff based right here in Armidale that will be providing a service to over 500,000 TAFE students right across the whole state,” Mr Marshall said.

Three new roles including Head of Digital Design, Head of Digital Learning Lab and Head of Product Design have already been filled.
And TAFE Digital General Manager Megan Aitken said it was just the beginning.
Mrs Aitken said having headquarters in Armidale would make a huge difference to students studying at other TAFEs in the region such as Glen Innes.
“It gives students much more choice in terms of studying online, in a blended way or face-to-face,” she said.
It is anticipated works will be complete by March 2017, opening to the community in April.
