HE may not have been able to clinch a Bathurst win during his time in the Supercars series, but in the Touring Car Masters series it is a different story for Steve Johnson.
Ten years after he placed third in the Great Race, Johnson claimed a pair of wins at the Mount in the Touring Car Masters series behind the wheel of a 1971 Ford Falcon XY.
He also clocked a qualifying record lap on Friday with a 2:16.6160 scorcher.
“The car is really good, it’s a 10-year-old car, it’s not new like some of these other cars, but the good thing about it is that it’s been in good hands most of its life and it’s a really well sorted car,” he said.
“It’s got good power, obviously being a 351 Windsor in it, it also handles really well which you need when you’ve got that power.
“I debuted in 2015 in it and set a quick time two years ago in qualifying. Essentially the car is the same as back then, it’s got a new engine in it, but other than that, there’s no difference.”
