Halls Head dog Braandi has been a water pup since she was adopted, and enjoys regular swims with the dolphin pods of the Peel-Harvey Estuary.
She lives canal-side with ‘mum’ Lee Grainger, who said Braandi, now nine, has been swimming with the dolphins since she was six-weeks-old.
“They’re here all the time… We’ve actually got a ramp for the dog to get in and out, but she’s always loved to swim,” Ms Grainger said.
“She goes and sits on the little ramp, and quite often they come in here.
“In the video, you can hear everyone calling her over there, because Bill, who lives across the canal, he was worried the dolphins were going to hurt her, because they were going round and round…
“We were a little bit worried about, there was the mothers and the babies, and we were worried they might be a bit territorial, but they weren’t.”
Ms Grainger said even on boat trips, if Braandi sees dolphins she will jump into the water to swim with them, though most of the time they just ignore her.
“In the canal, though, they quite like her,” she said.
