Eight playing fields have been mown and marked, the goal posts are up, and more than a dozen tents erected in anticipation of the 900 players and hundreds of visitors who will descend on the school from Friday for what is the largest under 12s rugby carnival in Australia.
Field preparation started back in January with a growth retardant applied before fields were aerated, but since then it has been a challenging time for the hard-working team.
“We raked out new seed, started watering and were able to put out the first application of liquid fertiliser and grass conditioner but since then we’ve had record rainfall which has really made things tricky,” he said.
In the twenty three years I have worked here I’ve never seen water lying on some of the fields like this year, so a few days of sun would be ideal.”
