A shortage of players in Tamworth the week before saw the side suffer massive losses but they hit back on Saturday with a 14-12 victory over the Deadly Yinnars and a 10-4 defeat of Tamworth Mustangs.
Captain-coach Kate McCulloch said the return of the club’s experienced players added more to their attack.
"Each week we are improving,” she said.
We definitely improved from last week. Even managing to get a win against the Deadly Yinnars, who beat us in round one, showed our improvement.
"Spreading the ball in attack, not just trying to go straight up the middle, using all our players.
"Because we had our faster players back we were able to do that as well.”
McCulloch highlighted the performances of Hayley Ford, who strapped on the boots for the first time this season, and Anarla Moran as being key to taking the wins.
The under 17s were unable to take to the field with the opposing Tamworth side failing to form a full squad but the team’s younger players made the step up to help out the opens.
"Our 17s girls, out of the two teams they have showed the most committment,” McCulloch said.
"Every single girl that stepped out on the field has stepped up to the plate and showed they have courage and skill.
"They have also showed desire to learn and improve.”
The competition is back in Tamworth this Saturday.
