Armidale District Cricket Association’s junior representative season got off to a strong start with both the under 14’s and under 16’s sides earning victories over Inverell on Sunday.
At Newling Oval, the under 14’s cruised to a win after bowling the visitors out for 85 after 24 overs.
Ahsan Syed Mehdi, Hamish Biddle, Darcy McDermott and Kieran Wicks each picked up two wickets and Kareena Dawson earned one.
Cotter Litchfield was the leading run scorer for the match with 44 runs.
Over at Elizabeth Park in the under 16’s match, Inverell elected to bat first but were no match for Armidale’s bowling line-up and were all out for 185.

Aiden Morrissey picked up three wickets from 3.2 overs while Toby Smith, Sam Jeyakumar and Kieran Dennis claimed two each. Thomas Smith also snagged one.
With the bat, BJ Cameron helped his side get off to a good start with 44.
From there, the side suffered a collapse, losing seven quick wickets.
They managed to hold on though and secure the winner.
Under 16’s coach Michael Dennis said it was a nail biter with the final two batsmen required to hit the winning runs.
"It was one of those games where it came down to the last people to get the runs which was quite exciting,” he said.
"Then when they batted they were really cruising, at one stage chasing 146 to win they were 2-106 and then they lost seven wickets for about 40 runs.”
“The last two batsmen were in and then there was a no ball which tied the match and then Toby Smith hit a four to finish the match off.”
"It was quite tense.”
This weekend, the junior representative sides travel to Narrabri. The under 16’s get the weekend off with Narrabri unable to field a side.
