The performance was part of a new initiative by Armidale Regional Council to reinvigorate the town centre.
A spokeswoman for Armidale Regional Council said the council was always looking for ways to promote the city and ensure the town’s infrastructure are in top condition.
“Council is currently working towards recommendations within the Mall Vibrancy Plan where these recommendations can be funded,” the spokeswoman said.
“Our events and marketing team although not directly responsible for attracting traffic to our retail sector aims to enhance the Armidale experience by conducting and supporting events throughout the year.
“These include Autumn Festival, A Day on the Green weekend, Christmas in the Mall and school holiday programs.”
The Paw Patrol performance is based off a children’s television program about a group of six rescue dogs led by a tech-savvy boy named Ryder.
The pups work together to protect the community and firedog Marshall and police pup Chase performed in the mall.
More than 100 mothers, fathers and their children turned up to watch the two performances.
Supervisor of Moxon’s Bakery in the mall Leanne Bailey said the activities had brought with them a significant increase in business to the store.
“It’s great, we wish they had more things like this on in the mall,” she said.
“We’ve been flat strap all day.”
Ms Bailey said other businesses in the mall had also experienced better than average trading hours.
“I know other businesses did really well and we were certainly run off our feet all day so we’d be happy to have more activities like this on in the mall,” she said.
This year Armidale Regional Council plans to launch a new program that includes a kids day in the mall, movies in the mall and a new night market.
To date performances in the mall have included Al Heeney Rhythm and Blues, Terra Firma, Bopcatz and local school groups.
