Athletes from across the region took on the state’s best at the recent NSW All Schools athletics carnival in Sydney. Four of the seventeen Armidale Athletics club members finished with medals to their name.
Armidale’s Stuart Geddes took out gold in the 2000 metre steeplechase race after holding the lead for much of the race. Geddes said although he was happy to win the event, he believes he has plenty of improvement in him ahead of the national All Schools event in December.
"I was happy with the place but the time wasn't too good,” he said.
"I hadn't ran that time for quite a bit. I was a bit upset with that but was really happy with a gold medal.”
Geddes backed up the following day for the 3000 metre and finished in fourth.
Glen Innes’ Matt Campion also took to the track in the 2000 metre steeplechase after overcoming a knee injury.
A newcomer to the steeplechase, Campion ran at the front of the pack for the majority of the race before a fast finish saw him snag silver.
Another steeplechaser in Armidale’s Henry Sindel found himself on the podium with a bronze medal in the 15 year old event.
Lawson Fittler rounded out the medal winners with a bronze in the 15 year old’s 800 metre event.
Kelsie Youman, Grace Cassidy and Eliza Ward were part of the team who qualified for finals in their events but found themselves just shy of the medals.
