A circus of creepy clowns have been sighted across Armidale over the weekend

The clowns have been sighted in Central Park, Erskine Street and Doody Park.

One local reports a red-haired clown residing at McDonalds, another, Zac Broderick was chased by a man in incredibly large shoes from Kennedy Street to the service station.

A post on the Armidale Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down Facebook page has confirmed multiple sightings and some locals are actively hunting the clowns.

“I will hit one in the ute if they jump out at me,” Brad Johnson wrote. 

The phenomenon began in America and there have since been reports that the clowns have spread across Australia.

Some have exhibited violent behaviour toward the public and police at Armidale Local Area Command have urged the community not to engage in vigilante action. 

Two young people were reported running onto the road near Central Park at 11:30pm on Sunday.

The pair were armed with sticks.

“If people have any concerns please contact the Armidale police station and we will deal with it,” Inspector John Walkowiak said.

“We don’t advise people to approach the clowns, please let the police deal with these people.”
