International speaker raises awareness for foster kids

A foster kid himself, Daryl’s traumatic experience has led him to be a voice for the children who are ward’s of the state, and an innovator for improving legislation.

Foster care manager at Pathfinders in Armidale, Kim Smart is organising the event and says it is an opportunity to raise awareness in honour of Foster Care Week, which runs between September 11 and 17.

“Across the state we have 20,000 in out-of-home care.

Providing an event like this raises awareness,” she said.
