A LOCAL childcare centre is stepping up and raising money during the lead up to Relay for Life.
Tiny Town’s fundraising coordinator Katie Roughan said the fundraising event aimed to help people in the community who had been affected by cancer.
“We are raising money for Relay for Life which we will all be walking in October to raise money for the cancer council,” Ms Roughan said.
“There are a few parents and staff members who have been challenged by the disease so I thought it would be a great idea for all of us to come together and raise money as a team.
“It’s also really good for the kids to get involved as well.”
The fundraising event will include raffles, petting zoo, jumping castle, sausage sizzle and face painting.
“For a lot of the parents who have had their own cancer battle, this has meant a lot to them,” Ms Roughan said.
“We have had parents bake to raise money and had a lot of really good feedback for the event on the week.
“And all the rooms are going to bake sweets and treats for the day to sell.
“It’s really good for everyone to get involved and bring the community together.
“The children have loved getting involved- they have been getting a little creative and a little messy.”
Relay for Life is an annual overnight event that raises money for cancer research, prevention and support.
Community members gather in teams and walk a continuous loop to help raise money and support cancer survivors and those undergoing treatment.
The childcare centre also plans to use the fundraiser as an opportunity to showcase their service.
“We are also having an open day for people to come look through the centre,” Ms Roughan said.
“It’s a good opportunity for people who are interested in enrolling their kids with us to have a look around and see what we offer.
“People should definitely drop by on Saturday.”
The event will be held on Saturday July 30 from 11am to 2pm with community members welcome to drop into the Tiny Towns fundraiser located at 53 Kirkwood Street.
