ARMIDALE Parkrun celebrated their 100th run and second birthday on Saturday with 131 people braving the cold to turn out for the event.
Local runner Dale Murray started the weekly, five kilometre run started two years ago to encourage people to stay active in the community.
Murray handed over the reins of Armidale Parkrun to new co-directors Paul Billings and Tim Dyall at Saturday’s birthday event.
He said it is an exciting time for the event and believes the new directors will continue what he started in making the event enjoyable for runners of all abilities and ages.
“I am sad to be leaving the role as event director but it is the right decision to make to bring fresh ideas into Parkrun Armidale so I am really looking forward to the future as well because I know the new event directors will do a great job,” he said.
“[I got a] personal best on my final day as the event director so I am really happy with that.”
Murray said running the event each week was rewarding and loved seeing new faces getting involved.
“What really makes the Parkrun for me is seeing all the happy and smiling faces,” he said.
“I would encourage people to come along because Parkrun is for everyone. It is a really supportive community.”
