THERE was no cowing around when more than 2600 weaners charged into the pens at the Armidale Saleyards on Friday.
Agent Victor Moar said it was a record for saleyards with the number of the baby cows on the auction block.
“This is definitely the biggest sale we have had of weaners in 20 years,” Mr Moar said.
“All the weaners come from farmers from across the New England area such as Armidale, Guyra, Uralla, Walcha and Bundarra.”
Mr Moar said he anticipated all the stock would be sold in the course of the day.
“The numbers could be attributed to the fact that the season is still tough,” Mr Moar said.
“The price of cattle is some of the best we have seen.
“A sale like this definitely showcases the quality of the product coming out of the New England.”
The main vendors of the day with the largest number of stock for sale were Brooksby and Lynach.
Mr Moar said it was fantastic for cattle farmers in the district who had previously struggled .
“It is a shot in the arm for local farmers,” Mr Moar said.
