Guyra Shire Council will use extra funding provided under the Roads to Recovery program to clear a backlog of maintenance across the Shire’s road network.

Additional funding has been allocated under the Roads to Recovery Program in the current budget period 2015-16 as well as the following year, 2016-17.
Council’s usual allocation for the Roads to Recovery Program is $419,705, however they have been advised by Member for New England Barnaby Joyce that this year’s allocation will actually be $1,199,024 and next year’s allocation will be $1,384,674, before reverting back to $419,705 for 2017-18 and 2018-19.
The additional funding is a result of the reintroduction of the fuel excise indexation.
Mr Joyce said that this is a massive boost in funding for our region’s road network.
“Every resident understands the challenges this region faces with building necessary roads,” Mr Joyce said.
“The extra funding for local councils over the next two financial years means they can now invest in more of the road upgrades we need.”
“This extra funding will deliver a tangible benefit and make our roads and streets safer and more reliable.”
The increase in funding will enable Guyra Shire Council to spend additional funds on capital works this year and next, and reduce its backlog of roadworks.
Some of the works to be undertaken include the sealing of 500m of Maybole Road near the Gap at an estimated cost of $90,000 and bitumen reseals along Wards Mistake Road and Tenterden Rds at an estimated cost of $269,000.
