Now, Harrison McWhirter is about to host his first grading.

“I have a few students ready to go to their next belt,” he said.

“We’ll be looking at a bunch of different techniques, combinations – most of them are five and they know it pretty well.” 

The public is invited to come and watch and participate in a free karate lesson afterwards.

Harrison said he’s excited to run the show himself.

“Hopefully all of my students are ready and I think they’re ready, I want my instructors to be proud of how far we’ve come so far,” he said.

The Armidale Martial Arts Academy open day is on Saturday at 10am at the Masonic Hall.
