Major intersection set to close for the weekend in Sydney CBD

Road closures in and around George Street this weekend will impact drivers in the Sydney CBD.

Changes to Surry Hills roads for the duration of the light rail works will also come into effect this weekend.

The King and George street intersection in the CBD is set to close at 10pm on Saturday and will remain closed until 5am on Monday.

King Street will also be also closed between York and Clarence streets.

George Street will be completely blocked off to southbound traffic between Bridge Street and Market Street.

The road closures will not affect pedestrian access to the area with temporary pedestrian crossings to be put in place.

Hunter Street, between Pitt and George streets will also be closed from 10pm on Friday until 5am on Monday.

Because of the road closures, the 389 bus - from Pyrmont to Bondi via the CBD - will not stop in King Street but will divert to York Street.

In Surry Hills, the changes will affect roads between Bourke and Crown streets with Devonshire Street almost completely closed off except for local access.

The Sydney Light Rail projected is expect to be completed in 2019 with services starting soon after.
