It was applause all around as the region’s school kids took to the stage on Friday, many of them for the first time.

The first of three CAPERS performances begun for the students with a matinee performance in front of their peers.

Seven students from Armidale performed at the matinee performance as well as two sold out evening performances Friday and Saturday nights at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.

Isaac Clark from Armidale High School was a featured dancer, performing a memorable solo to Nature Boy, and also part of the Senior Regional Dance Ensemble and the Regional Ballet Ensemble.

Dustin Cooper from Duval High School was part of the Senior Regional Ensemble, part of the Featured Artist Ensemble, playing an energetic and entertaining Captain Hook, and the Regional Ballet Ensemble.

Georgia Bursle from Armidale City Public School – the only Primary School student from Armidale involved – was part of the Junior Regional Dance Ensemble and the Regional Ballet Ensemble, and despite an overnight stay in hospital during rehearsals last week was able to overcome the pain to perform her four dances each show without any indication that anything was amiss.

Hannah Kwan from Duval High, who sang Nature Boy for Isaac’s solo, and Zoe George, also from Duval High whose rendition of ‘Till there was you’ was breathtaking, were featured artist singers and were absolutely amazing in all their number. Sarah-Kate Sowden was part of the 16 strong featured artist group. Duval High School support class student Ben Sowden worked hard in the backstage crew, to create props and set design.

Jonathon Bruhl and Jesse Streeting from Armidale High were also featured artist singers, with Jesse getting the whole audience rocking with his rendition of ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’, and Jonathon’s contribution to ‘Ave Maria’ leaving the audience enthralled. These two young men were highlights of the show.
