The 99-year-old celebrated her birthday on Friday and had sage advice for those looking to live a long and healthy life.
“The secret to getting to 99 is to just keep on living really, that’s all there is to it,” Mrs Gow said.
A Red Cross volunteer of 20 years Mrs Gow has extended a helping-hand to the less fortunate.
“I used to do the blood donors – the milkshakes,” she said.
“One chap said it was the best he’d ever had, in those days we used to put the ingredients in ourselves and I used to sneak a lot of malt in.
“It’s a wonderful service and they do so much good around the world – I’m quite happy to work for them, sit for raffles, though I can’t do much anymore.”
Mrs Gow celebrated her birthday with friends from the Armidale Red Cross branch.
“I feel I’m doing a little bit towards the world, they’re nice people and we all get along very well,” Mrs Gow said.
