The under 12s and 16s played their round six matches against Moree on the weekend.
Moree sent the visiting under 12 side in to bat first.
Opening batsmen Brock Parsons top scored for Armidale with 24 in the team’s total of 8-111.
With their top order eager to chase down Armidale’s score, Moree suffered an early loss with opener Riley Bettington run out on just one run.
They didn’t have much luck from there and the visitors managed to tear through Moree’s batting lineup to have them all out for 100.
Parsons backed up his effort with the bat to earn two wickets while Jack Hedges and Sam Meehan grabbed three each.
“The 12s are playing really well as a team, they have gelled beautifully,” coach Matt Friend said.
“Brock Parsons and Will Friend batted superbly on Sunday.
“With our bowling, Jack Hedges, Sam and Brock were excellent.
“When Jack took two wickets in an over, that really turned the match.
“Special mention to Blake McElroy who bowled really well, just didn’t get any wickets. Also Ben Heagney as captain who has grown as an individual and really did a top job in captaincy this week.”
The under 16s looked down and out against the combined Moree-Narrabri side after they only made 74 runs with the bat.
The team’s bowlers stepped up and Jackson Gwynne struck early in the innings to claim the wicket of opener Daniel Brown for four runs.
Gwynne picked up his second shortly after with John Montgomery caught on two.
Kieran Dennis took the next wicket of Jordyn Mowle before BJ Cameron claimed Jake Lynch.
The next four scalps belonged to Dennis to bring up his five-wicket haul.
Gwynne bagged another two to finish off the tailenders and sent Moree packing for 60.
“BJ Cameron and Henry Sindel also tied the batsmen down with excellent bowling building pressure and helping create wickets for the other bowlers,” team manager Helen Dennis said.
“Special mention to Steph Cameron who had come along to enjoy watching her brother play, and ended up on the field after we were left one short thanks to one team member’s unfortunate collision with a kangaroo on the trip over (he’s okay by the way).
“Steph did a stellar job batting number 11 which allowed our team a 10th wicket partnership of 14 runs, which proved the difference in the end.”
The table-topping under 14s didn’t make it onto the field with their opposition forfeiting but have qualified for the final on March 5.
