The posts are part of community arts project Private Posts, facilitated by Jonathon Larsen and Ned McDowell.
Each confession has been written on a postcard by a member of the community and has now been turned into an animation by Jonathan Larsen.
“The postcards aren’t a new idea but it’s time to get back to writing things down, reflecting rather than now where we’re so used to communicating by text and social media – there’s all this noise that we’re living in,” Mr Larsen said.
There were a number of aspects to the project, the art carts collected postcard confessions which were then used in writing workshops and performed by local theatre artists.
“There are some things there that are deeply personal and you sort of wonder if you should be putting it on the wall,” Mr Larsen said.
“Some of it’s quite flippant, there’s an awful lot about love – so many people said the same thing in a slightly different way.
“You can see there’s more about us that’s similar than different, we all think we’re in this bubble but we’re not – we have so much more in common than we think.”
The project has been animated into a short film.
“The animation process has been challenging and time consuming but in the end a rewarding experience,” Mr Larsen said.
“Benjamin Thorn helped me greatly by finding common threads in the text and cleverly knitting the story together.”
NERAM director Robert Heather said the project had received hundreds of entries.
“The response has been really good, a lot of people got involved in writing postcards,” Mr Heather said.
“Jonathan has had writers involved, theatre producers and a bunch of different people across different art forms involved.
“He’s had lots of really good feedback from people and people have written a lot of postcards – we’d really like anyone who wrote a postcard to come and have a look at the final outcome here.”
Postcards were collected at a number of events, including the University of New England Wellness Day, the Black Gully Music Festival and at a pop-up store in the mall.
