Sweltering heat soaring above 30 degrees didn’t stop travellers as far south as Melbourne and north as Gladstone from descending on the Glen Innes Racecourse.
Even Armidale residents braved the hot sun and afternoon storm predictions to enjoy the Celtic capital’s annual race meet.
Glen Innes Jockey Club president Mark Ritchie said around 2000 people turned out for the event, just down on previous year’s numbers.
“We always make some sort of a profit well and truly and have money in the bank,” he said.
Punters are now getting set for the Deepwater Races, held this Saturday.
