Ridden by Jason Taylor, the six-year-old gelding travelled in the middle of the pack before a surge at the finish saw him clinch his second career win.
The 1600 metre race was only the gelding’s second race since being transferred to Gavenlock’s stables.
Warren’s wife Sue said the win was very exciting to watch and they have seen a big difference in Zambezi’s form since being under their care.
"He has improved from when he first came and he is very pleasing,” she said.
"One of the clients was at Coffs Harbour and was absolutely ecstatic, just so thrilled. We expect him to continue to improve. Sometimes a change of environment will help them.
"He came to Warren and we just did what we normally do, we check them out and find a happy spot. You look at each horse as an individual.”
