The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australian gave the city its tick of approval after the the former Armidale Dumaresq Council submitted an application at the end of 2015 outlining the city’s case for CMCA to consider.
This included easy access to the shopping centre, appropriate low cost overnight parking and access to potable water and free dump point.
Council’s new master plan says campers could return to Dumaresq Dam after a two-year hiatus but charges will be levied and campers will only be able to stay for a maximum of five nights
In February 2014, camping on the site was banned after a sewerage blockage in the old toilet block.
Council’s Interim General Manager Glenn Wilcox acknowledged the benefits to Armidale and the local business community.
“This is an excellent result for our region,” he said.
“The self-contained RV tourism market is a multi billion dollar industry and can potentially deliver great economic benefits to our area. ”
The number of registered RVs in Australia is expected to grow to more than 700,000 vehicles by
2020.
Regional Australia in particular, will benefit from this extraordinary growth.
Being an RV Friendly Town, Armidale has the opportunity to promote the region’s attractions and capture a part of this massive growth market.
